Bruins get Nash for 2 picks, 3 players

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The Boston Bruins continued solidifying their playoff push by acquiring forward Rick Nash in a multiplayer trade with the Rangers that leaves New York retooling for the long-term future.

The Bruins won the Nash sweepstakes by acquiring the 33-year-old forward in a deal on Sunday, a day before the NHL's trade deadline.

The Rangers acquired the Bruins' first-round pick in this year's draft as well as forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and a seventh-round pick in the 2019 draft.

Maple Leafs acquire Canadiens' Plekanec

TORONTO (AP) The Maple Leafs acquired forwards Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Baun from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Rinat Valiev, forward Kerby Rychel and a 2018 second-round draft pick Sunday.

Plekanec, 35, had six goals and 18 assists in 60 games with Montreal this season. The native of Kladno, Czech Republic, has played in 981 NHL regular-season games, with 232 goals and 373 assists.

Gionta signs with Bruins after Olympics

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Brian Gionta is returning for a 16th NHL season after the Boston Bruins signed the United States Olympic team captain to a one-year $700,000 contract.

The Bruins announced the signing on Sunday, a few hours after they acquired veteran forward Rick Nash in a multiplayer trade with the New York Rangers.

Daughter of Hurricanes' Staal dies

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) The Carolina Hurricanes say the infant daughter of team co-captain Jordan Staal has died.

Team spokesman Mike Sundheim said Sunday that Staal told him his daughter Hannah died Saturday.

Lightning regain NHL lead with SO win

MONTREAL (AP) Brayden Point scored in regulation and added the shootout winner and the Tampa Bay Lightning regained the top spot in the NHL with a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

Nikita Kucherov and Ryan Callahan also scored in regulation to help the Lightning (42-17-3) win their third straight and move a point ahead of idle Vegas for the overall NHL lead.

Leafs beat Bruins, home win streak at 9

TORONTO (AP) Mitch Marner stepped up with Auston Matthews sidelined by a shoulder injury.

Marner had a goal and three assists, the last on Ron Hainsey's winner with 1:23 remaining, and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat Boston 4-3 on Saturday night to match the franchise record of nine straight home wins.

DALLAS (AP) Michael Hutchinson wasn't concerned when Dallas' Tyler Pitlick scored in the first 10 seconds of the Winnipeg goalie's first game in 25 days.

"The first goal's not that important," Hutchinson said. "We have 59 minutes and 50 seconds to come back and get another one. We were able to battle back."

WASHINGTON (AP) On the night Alex Ovechkin reached one milestone, his goal-scoring prowess moved him closer to another.

Ovechkin added to his NHL lead with two goals while tying the Washington record for most games played, and the Capitals beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 on Saturday.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) The Florida Panthers cut it close - again.

Evgenii Dadonov scored with 1:53 to play to complete a hat trick and give the Panthers a 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.
